GIFT ACCEPTANCE POLICY
The Friends of the Tiverton Library Services is a not for
profit organization established in accordance with the laws
of the State of Rhode Island. The organization encourages the solicitation
and acceptance of gifts on behalf of the Tiverton
Library Services and the Tiverton Library Services Building Fund for purposes
that will help the Library to further and fulfill its
mission. The following policy governs acceptance of gifts made to the Friends
on behalf of the Library or for the benefit of any
of its programs :
The mission of the Tiverton Library Services is to provide
the means by which people of all ages, interests and circumstances
may avail themselves of the recorded wisdom, experiences, and ideas of others
for personal, educational, cultural, professional
and recreational enrichment.
Collections of library materials, services, and programs are
planned and developed to respond to community needs and
interests, assisting everyone continued personal growth and lifelong learning.
These materials are assembled, organized and
made accessible to all; recognizing that intellectual freedom is a foundation
of a free society.
The Library Board of Trustees, Library Building Committee,
Friends of the Tiverton Library Services and its representatives
solicit gifts form individuals, corporations, and foundations to secure the
future growth and mission of the Library. The provisions
of the mission and guidelines govern acceptance of all gifts received by the
Friends’ on behalf of the Library for any of its
programs or services.
The Friends of the Tiverton Library Services will accept unrestricted
gifts, and gifts for specific programs and purposes,
provided that such gifts are not inconsistent with its stated mission, purposes
and priorities. The Library will not accept gifts that
are too restrictive in purpose. Gifts that are too restrictive are those that
are difficult to administer and would become a burden
for the Library or that are for purposes outside the Library’s mission.
The Library Board of Trustees shall make all final
decisions on the restrictive nature of a gift, and its acceptance or refusal.
The Library Board of Trustees shall seek the advise of legal counsel in matters relating to acceptance of gifts when appropriate.
Cash is acceptable in any form. Checks shall be made payable
to the Friends of the Tiverton Library Services OR Tiverton
Library Services – Building Fund. All gifts made may be delivered to
