The Friends of Tiverton Libraries Annual Meeting was on Wednesday Jan. 18, at 6:30 pm at the Lil Bear Lounge.
The 2011 Annual Report was presented as a powerpoint presentation, highlights included: details of our library support, strategic planning, a Reeves Award for fundraising from the Rhode Island Coalition of Library, and the new Friends electronic formatting and communications. You can view a pdf of the entire presentation here.
Officers were elected and President’s Awards were renamed ‘Golden Sneaker Awards’ in honor of all who went the extra mile to ensure that accurate information be provided to the public in the lead-up to the successful special referendum for a new library building. You can read more about our new officers and the award recipients here on the Tiverton Patch.
Following the business meeting, Trustee and Building Committee Chair, Lee Hoyer provided an update on the new library.
The feature presentation was a powerpoint by Prudence Fallon, Adult Services and Reference Librarian at Essex, on her recent People to People Ambassador Program in China.
The Friends meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:30 pm, at the Essex Library at 238 Highland Road. New Friends are welcome.

Where else but the library can you get together with friends, learn something new, use a computer, search for jobs, listen to stories, read current newspapers, discover "old" relatives, giggle over an e-mail, use Wi-Fi on your laptop, find some fine art, grab a video for the weekend, borrow an audio book—or download and ebook-- for your next trip, check out as many books as you can carry and borrow a museum pass for your child or grandchild to enjoy? All within an hour's time, and all for free?
The Friends of Tiverton Libraries mission is to support those and more library services for all of us.
The Friends of Tiverton Libraries Annual Meeting and awards ceremony will be held on Wed. Jan 18, at 6:30pm at the Li’l Bear Lounge meeting room. This will replace the regular monthly meeting. At 7pm, there will be a feature presentation on Prudence Fallon’s recent People to People visit to China and its Libraries.
'Friend' us. Bring a friend.
